About Randy Helm
Randy Helm is the founder of Your CFO Service LLC and currently serves as Chief Financial Officer for a commercial construction company in Iowa.
Over the past two decades, Randy has worked in a variety of financial leadership roles, including Accounting Analyst, Finance Manager, Controller, and CFO. His experience spans multiple industries, including construction, manufacturing, banking, insurance, health technology, and service businesses.
This range of experience has given him a practical understanding of how businesses actually operate — not just how the numbers look in a report.
Randy holds a Bachelor’s degree from Drake University, an MBA from the University of Iowa, and is a licensed CPA.
A Few Things Randy Has Learned About Business Finance
After many years working inside businesses and talking with owners, Randy has developed a few perspectives that tend to come up again and again.
Revenue growth does not always improve cash flow.
Growing companies sometimes assume that higher sales will automatically make the business stronger financially. In reality, growth often requires more working capital, more hiring, and more financial discipline.
Financial reports are only the starting point.
Most businesses already have financial statements. The real value often comes from understanding the drivers behind the numbers and what those numbers suggest about future decisions.
Margins deserve constant attention.
Small changes in pricing, costs, or operational efficiency can have a meaningful impact on profitability. Businesses that consistently watch their margins tend to make better long-term decisions.
Risk is part of every important decision.
Major business decisions always involve uncertainty. The goal is not to eliminate risk, but to understand it and make decisions with clear financial perspective.
Clear financial visibility leads to better decisions.
When leadership understands what is really driving the financial performance of the business, decisions tend to become simpler and more confident.
Why Your CFO Service Exists
Your CFO Service was created to give business owners access to experienced financial leadership without hiring a full-time CFO.
Many companies reach a stage where financial decisions become more complex, but they are not large enough to justify another executive position.
In those situations, having access to experienced financial perspective — even on a part-time basis — can help leadership evaluate decisions more clearly and avoid costly mistakes.
That is the role Randy aims to provide.
Outside the Office
Outside of work, Randy enjoys strength training and fitness and spends a fair amount of time in the gym. The discipline involved in long-term training reflects the same mindset he brings to financial leadership — steady progress, thoughtful planning, and patience over time.
He and his wife have been married for more than 25 years and have one adult son. When possible, they enjoy traveling, especially if college football is involved.
